Eye Care Program

Eye Care Program

Eye Screening

Eye Surgery

The district has 200 new cases of cataract for every 100,000 of the population. Estimates show that 60,000 cataract operations have to be done every year to make the district cataract free. This has reduced the incidence of eye disease. The coverage is to 14,00,000 of the population with reasonably good eye care services. The patients who are screened in the eye camps are brought to the two centers by the mobile units for surgery. 61728 children were screened for eye defects and taught basics of eye care and symptoms of common eye diseases.

  • Basic training to teachers in schools enabling them to diagnose simple eye ailments in the students
  • Enhancing knowledge and skill base of clinical staff by arranging field visits to specialized Centres in the Country
  • Attending training and conferences
  • Identify and train community eye health careers –working closely with the community, identify motivated ‘careers’ to assist, by accompanying patients coming forward for surgery/treatment.
  • Raise awareness about the cost of blindness –motivate people to come forward early
  • Structure service management to meet the variations of seasonal peaks in demand, to reduce patient waiting time.
  • The main objective is to strategize and implement an effective program which “links low-cost affordable healthcare with socio-economic development”. From 10 years, NIRPHAD has engaged in Community Based Rehabilitation and has been linking eye services toward this cause.
