NIRPHAD, Brij Bhoomi CFCDP staff, community, children express deep gratitude to sponsors and KNH, Germany to present the work done and achievements with the support of the target community. This project is located in Mathura District (North India) with sponsor’s generous and valuable support.
Mathura is a Birth place of Lord Krishna. Devotees from all parts of World visit this holy religious place. World famous Taj Mahal is 56 Kms away from Mathura. The area comes under the part of Indo-Gangetic alluvial plane, water level is 10 to 15m below ground level. Iodine water in most of the area, unsuitable for drinking is one of the major problems of the area. Increased frequency of erratic rainfall is a significant change. The average annual rainfall of this region is 600 mm. Temperature of this region varies from 4° Celsius to maximum 31°. The area as in many other parts of World is witnessing climate change.
Target villages are situated in the interior parts of Mathura District within a radius of 20 Kms from NIRPHAD office. Except two villages all villages are schedule caste villages. Housing in target villages is semi concrete and thatch house with 50% of electrification. Target community consists of Jatav (schedule caste), Banjara, Muslim and Baghel. The occupation of these communities is agriculture, grazing cows and buffaloes of the land lords, selling cosmetics as a hawker, milk selling, labour work etc. Milch animals are an additional source of income for the families. Due to low literacy rate few people are employed in Govt. or private sector jobs. Buffaloes followed by cows and goats are the major types of livestock owned by the community. Agriculture is the main source of income ensuring food security. In each activity implemented at field level participation in terms of cash and kind is ensured. Different CBOs are formed and strengthened to ensure the sustainability of the project and to get increased community participation.
Community participation, increased awareness regarding different govt. schemes, accessibility to govt. services, increased participation of children and women in village development effective working of VDC, demand generation by community and working of SHGs as pressure groups are some of the indicators for the impact of the program. Target community is raising voice especially in the field of education to get quality education for the children. Exposure visits and picnics have resulted into interest, increased decision making, leadership quality and observation capacity.
Overall Goal: “To improve significantly and sustainably the living status of the children, especially the girls, either involved in or susceptible to be child labor, through economic, social and gender-based empowerment of them as well as their families.
