COVID-19 has impacted millions of lives globally, changing the way people live and how they function. While the surge of the infection has provided astonishing figures, the reality of the matter is that there seems to be no halt to this. Thousands of people have been stuck in various states with no means of transportation or money to sustain themselves. The pandemic has not only crippled the society financially, but in social terms as well. While life seemed to be pretty much normal previously, the recent phases of lockdowns has created a new lifestyle change and a drastic shift from what can now be considered the ‘new normal’.
“Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness.”
- World Health Organization (WHO)
Affecting millions of people world over, the COVID-19 virus seems to be unstoppable and ensured that the year 2020 has seen many unprecedented changes, staying at home and maintaining social distance, for one. This has seen unfavourable reactions from most people, especially students, who were beginning a new academic year. Work from home has also been set in for working professionals as the new medium to abide by. In the similar context, students have also been attending online classes and webinars as the new mode of teaching and learning sets in. While these changes have brought in a sense of comfort and saved money usually spent on travelling to offices or schools and universities, it has been difficult to maintain the same level of dedication and work consistency as held by individuals previously. Longer screen time and technical glitches and issues, along with monotonous hours have affected individuals both physically and mentally.
